The Best Weekend Getaways In Mumbai Are Now Just A Jetty Away | The Urban Vibe Travels
(We’d bookmark this link if we were you!)
Located off the Konkan Coast in the state of Maharashtra, Alibaug is a coastal town preferred by the tourists for its tropical climate and warmth of the simple locals. Lush and refreshing with the shade of coconut fronds and coolness of the mango trees, it is a perfect retreat located close to both Mumbai and Pune.
This quiet seaside town can be easily reached either by a car or a bus; however a ferry ride from Mumbai to Rewas followed by a bus ride is highly recommended! Once here, you can choose from a wide array of beach stays in Alibaug, or various homestays provided by the locals or just dine in at great eateries here.
Alibaug, a quick boat ride away, is no secret avatar is the talk of the town. With two new waterfront establishments in 2016, we predict Alibaug to be the next weekend getaway for the young SOBO youths who are bored of doing the same old things over the weekend. The ferries that run between the Gateway of India and Mandwa jetty have already been anchor until the end of 2016 but this shouldn’t deter you from planning your next weekend getaway to Alibaug soon.
Oh YES and why not when it lets you have a cheat beach vacay in the middle of the day… It’s better to skip the daily traffic and unwanted waiting over the weekend and just go for a quick sassy getaway (just 20 minutes from Mumbai)
Brunch by the sea
Boardwalk by Flamboyante
You’ll find groups of women, friends or even couples schmoozing at two-month-old Boardwalk by Flamboyante, which juts out right over the seafront. You get here even before the parking lot at Mandwa Jetty, and the views, of the ferry-lined waters on one side and the vast sea on the other, stretch right up to the Mumbai harbor. Boardwalk is all you need, hop on the 20 minutes ferry from the Gate of India (Mumbai) and have a cheat vacay in the middle of the day. Not Kidding. It’s something bizarre to do for the ones who have had enough of this city and strive to do something different.
It’s perfect for any occasion either your loved one’s birthday, special date or planning your friend’s bacherollete (they welcome private bookings for these as well). Not only the breathe taking view is superb, it also serves wood-fired pizza, cocktails, and even organizes luxe boat trips back & fourth. The kitchen is run by team behind Flamboyante in Cuffe Parade. On most weekends, Boardwalk hosts brunch buffets and sundowner parties. Kiki’s café and deli is an idyllic seaside eatery that overlooks the Arabian Sea, upon entering Alibaug’s port, is a pleasant change from the humdrum. A view that intersects the sea and sky, Hanging cycles, tiffin artworks, table graphics featuring all the aspects of your visit to Alibaug like the Gateway of India, rickshaws and cutting chai along with modern outdoor furniture and vibrant frameworks complete the look.
Think thin-crust pizzas with homemade sun-dried tomatoes, parmesan flat breads and slow-cooked Malvani kingfish curry on your plate when you visit. We found the idea of a dabeli sandwich to be exciting and a pulled chicken burger to be comforting. There’s masala omelette and truffle oil scrambled eggs. If you’re going for a quick bite they have an assorted crostini platter, a mezze platter, buffalo chicken wings and chicken satay with peanut sauce.
For a momentary break from the city lights and hustle-bustle, and you’d like to turn it down a notch. It’s a home away from home, yet so close to home. Take it up on an impulse or celebrate special occasions. You can hit either side of the bay in no time. Whoever thought a spa was their only retreat to rejuvenation, was clearly mistaken. Besides, Nitin Mongia (the man behind Alibag’s catering company, Kiki’s cuisine), backing this café and deli is reason enough. Best for birthdays, get togethers, celebration on a small scale or just a weekend getaway.
When: 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Where: As convenient as a 20-minute jetty ride from Gateway of India straight to Mandwa Jetty, followed by a minute’s walk on the promenade.
